  1. Hi Chuck,
When are you planning to game Bladensburg?
May I humbly suggest that Barney's gunners rate well above Conscript. They were very experienced gunboat gunners-- I have rated them Veteran for hat it is worth..
Re your OOB, the 85th were part of Thornton's Light Brigade.
I am presently researching the OOBs for our game in about nine months.
P.S. If you are using the Osprey Chesapeake Campaigns OOBs please note that I have found errors in the OOB for Bladensburg and North Point.
    Cheers,
    Rod

  2. Hi Rod, right you are, an oversight on my part. I had intended the infantry and gunners to be rated line. A case could be made for veteran as well.

Not sure on the play time of this one. In the fall I think.

I agree about the Osprey book. Lots of errors. I think I used the battle to organize brigades. I'll take a closer look at the 85th. Thanks for the feedback!

  3. I would argue that Ross wasn't average. He was a bold and aggressive commander. That's why he was far enough forward at North Point to get picked off by a rifleman.

The 85th served under Thornton at New Orleans. The Osprey for that lists them as a light infantry regiment.

Thank you for this scenario. I may have to play this.

  4. Good point Vstao, I have not read as much on this portion of the war.

I'm going to adjust both your suggestion and Rod's.

  5. This might seem like an odd question as it has nothing to do with gaming, but I am researching the Battle of Bladensburg, specifically anything to do with Colonel Thomas Hood. Do you have any information that might be of interest to one who is descended from him? Thanks!

  6. Hey! This post could not be written any better! Reading through this post reminds me of my good old room mate! He always kept talking about this. I will forward this page to him. Fairly certain he will have a good read. Many thanks for sharing! find civil war ancestor
