We actually played this game a few months before Chateauguay, though Chateauguay actually happened happened first. The Americans had a little more than half of the 8000 man army (depleted 20% by sickness at this point). About 1300 men under the Colonel of the 89th regiment defeated an American force of over 4000 in an open battle. The American army retreated to New York and the invasion of Canada was over. In our game, the Americans defeat the British force.
The initial deployment of the Americans and British.
The American brigade to the South (left) deploys to engage the 2 forward units and cannon, while two brigades try and flank the British through the trees to the North.
Mid point of the battle. Many of the American regiments are running low on ammunition (part of our scenario rules).
The US 16th regiment breaks and the US 2nd Light Dragoons try to drive the British break but take several casualties and break.
The American reserve brigade arrives, the 16th regiment rallies and the US artillery deploys. British casualties start piling up.
The final stage of the battle. One of the forward British units breaks while the other falters. The British regiment on the far right falters, gets outflanked by the Americans and then breaks. The battle is over. The Americans are free to invade Montreal. A future What If? scenario will be the attack on Montreal by this force.
